Here is a list of JDM OBDII engines  that can't work with TOYOBD1.

To know if your engine is OBDII ,easy way is to find the SIL pin on the pin out.
no OBDI Toyota will have that pin.

*for those desperately seeking to datalog on those OBDII engines it is said that with a recent ELM327 scanner it can be done. But the elm327 must be configured by the application accordingly prior to this. As I have no recent ELM327 scanner my quest ended there. maybe another time...

    1. Hi, I never came across a 1JZ-GE, but I thing it is supported, we will need to run a test for that. please my other post about testing the diagnosis box, additionally since it is a 1jz, you will need to place a jumper in the dashboard connector. I have written another post about this. thanks

    1. Hi, no it cannot work, please note that the obd1 to obd2 cable is meant for cars that had the diagnosis box but were really obd2 from the start.this cable allows to get a regular obd2 plug but it does nothing with data compatibility. the elm327 cannot read the toyota obd1 protocol neither.

  4. Hi, I've got an EP82 (1991) with a 4E-F (not a 4E-FE) engine. It's the carburetted version. Just wondered if the ODB1READ will work with this engine please?
Also, is there any alternative to the Bluetooth option? I'd like to read data into an Arduino (or similar) so that I can combine it with other data. Thanks

  5. Hi, the obd1read will not be of any use for it. BUT the toyocom might be of some use. just like what I did with my 3e(carbureted) install in my el31 tercel. bluetooth was selected due to the ease of communication with android devices.

  6. Hey JF, great product. So there is no way to get the 7M-GTE working on MA70 Supra? Is it an ECU thing?

    1. Hi,strangely enough the 7M-GTE ecu appears to have been design before the first obd1 stream ECU, the A/T 7M-GE. so it does not feature all that usefull digital information stream. even the late 7M-GTE ecus dont have it. similarly ,no 4A-GZE has it either even the ae92 ones. on the 7m-gte you could still use the newer toyocom .but it would be relying on the universal mode. this requires more wiring work for less total information. compared to nothing this is still significant. please look up my other blogs about 'universal mode' and 'one wire interface'
